Through the expected integral openness of its economy, Tunisia is facing challenges of international competitiveness. In 2008, Tunisia will implement the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the European Union that will completely abolish the remaining trade barriers and customs. Tunisia , a country with scarce natural resources, had since many years ago taken various measures to upgrade its industry and invest in the knowledge economy. Among the strategies of the so-called 'national system of innovation', Tunisia is planning twelve new science and technology parks by the year 2010. Six are actually being implemented. Borj-Cedria Science and Technology Park is the first one in terms of its implementation schedule.
